| Pets may prevent allergies
Recently, doctors have concluded that the very clean environments we try to achieve for babies and young children may leave them susceptible to allergies as they grow older. Now, doctors at Ford Hospital in Detroit say their 10-year study shows that kids who were regularly exposed to pets during their first year of life (when the immune system is still developing) are less likely to be allergic to grass, dust, and mold, as well as to dogs and cats. The doctors theorize that exposure to animals' bacteria helps children lower their susceptibility to allergens. Though allergies run in families, even kids whose parents had them were less likely to be allergic themselves if there was a pet in the home. |

| West Virginian couple POLICE MADE THE GRUESOME DISCOVERY while responding to what they thought was a domestic violence call. When the police arrived , they discovered several dogs and a smell that was intolerable. The dogs were apparently locked in the house for several months, and dog feces was 2 feet deep throughout the house. The owner of the dogs, Frank Snodgrass, is facing 29 animal cruelty charges. At the IBP plant near the Tri-Cities, cows go in one end and beef comes out the other. In between, some of those animals face what USDA inspectors call torture. The video shows fallen cows being trampled and dragged, others are tortured with electric prods. One cow has fallen and workers stick an electric prod on its head, then place the prod down its mouth. Still other cows are hung on chains, fully conscious, blinking and kicking.
